During the month of April, we’re spotlighting some of the hundreds of volunteers who help make our House a home. April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, but it would take years of blog posts to recognize all of the heroes who give of their time to make sure our families are comfortable when they need to stay close to their children who are getting care from Columbus hospitals. So we feature volunteers regularly all the time. Click here to see past volunteer spotlights. Thanks to all of our volunteers for being the backbone of our mission.

Debby used to be a NICU nurse and was looking to use her knowledge of that environment in a volunteer role, especially having family who had babies in the NICU at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She knew how important the Ronald McDonald House is for families with children in the hospital and applied to be a volunteer at the House. When she learned the central Ohio chapter has a Ronald McDonald Family Room in OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, closer to her home in Powell, she decided to apply as a volunteer at the room, near the hospital’s NICU, operated by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. In the volunteer spotlight video below, she talks about how she decided to volunteer at the room, what it’s like volunteering in the room, and explains that you don’t need to be a former medical professional to volunteer with RMHC. Just being a good listener is enough.
