Learn About The Recurring Weekly and Monthly Activities Offered For Families

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, we offer a variety of recurring weekly and monthly activities designed to bring joy, comfort, and connection to families staying with us. From crafts and games to yoga, therapy dogs, and live music, these volunteer-led experiences create moments of fun and relaxation during what can be a challenging time. Arts & Crafts

BESA

  • Last Tuesday of each month, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
  • BESA volunteers offer creative monthly craft nights, and help host special events like Trick-or-Treat and the New Year’s Eve Party

Crafts with Carol

  • Monthly, Wednesday or Thursday, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Carol brings themed craft activities, often tied to upcoming holidays. These laid-back lunchtime sessions are perfect for families of all ages. She also occasionally fills in for Friday bingo.

Crafts with Cheryl

  • Monthly, Monday, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Cheryl hosts a fun evening of arts and crafts in a casual and welcoming atmosphere.

Fun with Fran

  • Monthly (excluding winter months), 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Fran leads a banner-making craft night full of creativity and color. She arrives early to set up and make sure everything’s ready for families to jump in.

Project Sunshine OSU

  • Students from The Ohio State University that come in weekly during the school year on Sunday and Monday evenings and host crafts from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. 
  • They also have been great as volunteer groups for events such as the Annual Holiday Party, Annual Easter Egg Hunt, and even Hallway Trick or Treat in past years. 

Quilts by Molly

  • Twice a month, during lunch
  • Thanks to grant funding, Molly helps families turn children’s artwork into keepsake quilts, free of charge.

Music & Entertainment

A Moment of Magic OSU

  • First Friday of each month, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. (during OSU school year)
  • College students from OSU dress up as beloved characters and host a lively night of bingo. Their costumes, enthusiasm, and energy bring smiles and spark magic for kids and parents alike.

Live Music by Joe

  • Occasionally
  • Joe brings his guitar and performs for families, offering spontaneous and relaxing entertainment.

Live Music by Steve

  • About once a month
  • Steve visits the House to play acoustic guitar and sing for families, offering peaceful, live entertainment in the dining or lounge areas. His performances are low-key, uplifting, and great for winding down.

Good Medicine Productions

  • Random lunch/dinner visits
  • With a “wacky and silly” style, these costumed volunteers interact with families through music, comedy, and playful improvisation—lifting spirits and sparking laughter whenever they arrive.

Magical Adventures Parties

  • Monthly, usually on weekends
  • This group brings favorite characters like princesses, superheroes, and even the Grinch to interact with kids at the House.

NACHO Street Band

  • Periodically (outside Jan-Apr busy season)
  • Originally formed by Nationwide Children’s Hospital staff, this band hosts an open rehearsal followed by a live performance in the dining area.

Wellness Activities

Hairstyling by the Blowout Bar

  • Weekly, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Stylists from The Blowout Bar offer free hairstyling for women. Appointments are one hour, with standby options available.

Haircuts by Brittany

  • Monthly, by appointment (15-minute slots, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.)
  • Free haircuts offered to families in the Spa Room by a volunteer stylist who first served during the pandemic.

Haircuts by Diane

  • Monthly, by appointment (15-minute slots, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.)
  • Diane offers complimentary haircuts to family members in the Spa Room.

Reflexology by Robert

  • Monthly, Monday, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Enjoy a calming session of reflexology—a therapeutic technique applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears.

Yoga by Colleen

  • Weekly, Tuesday, 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
  • A relaxing, beginner-friendly yoga session led in the Zoo Playroom. Mats provided.

Sports & Games

Bingo with Katie

  • Weekly, Friday, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • She usually hosts bingo from Join Katie for Bingo in the dining room

Soccer for the Future

  • Weekly, Thursday, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. (April through September)
  • A fun and active soccer session hosted outdoors (weather permitting), ideal for children and teens.
