Five months ago I knew very little about the Ronald McDonald House Charities. In this short period of time I have come to truly understand and appreciate all of the hard work done here at the House. My internship started as something I needed to fulfill course requirements at The Ohio State University, but now I see it as much more. This organization not only cares for the families who need somewhere to stay near the hospital, but they care for their employees and volunteers too. It is amazing to see the way everyone involved has incredible passion for their work and for the families who need them. The house is a welcoming place for anyone who walks through the front door. The first time I came to the house I had no idea what to expect, but after getting a tour and seeing the variety of rooms catered to all who are at the House, I was in awe.
I grew up in New York knowing little about the Ronald McDonald House Charities. After seeing how the entire Central Ohio community supports this house, it showed me that there is something special about this house in particular. I have found a place of my own at Ohio State which I am so thankful for, but meeting the families, hearing their stories, and sharing their stories, truly leaves me speechless. It is clear that each family is unique yet Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio provides a home to all of them.
It has been a remarkable experience interning in the Communications Department. Seeing the passion and excitement others feel towards something as simple as a Facebook post has made me confident in my hopes to work in the nonprofit field after graduation. Working on the Vehicle Donation Program has taught me about the many ways of giving to support a charity. Nothing is too small or too crazy. I am grateful for my experience here and everyone who has helped me grow over the past few months. I am excited to watch the continued growth of the Vehicle Donation Program and this charity as a whole.
