After several years of retirement, I was seeking a satisfying volunteer opportunity. Children have always been a big focus over the years. My 35 years of teaching young children was always rewarding.
A friend toured RMHC of Central Ohio with her quilt group and picked up some pamphlets for me. After reading the volunteer opportunities, I felt a calling.
For the past two plus years, I have found myself volunteering two Thursdays a month. I always love the feeling this place provides for families away from home with their child in the hospital close by. My team of “go getters” get busy preparing clean, comfortable, warm rooms for families. We are available to help in a variety of other needs such as doing laundry, preparing for fundraisers and more.

I enjoy being around the amazing staff and incredible fellow volunteers that are found at the Columbus Ronald McDonald House.
After I park my car and walk across the street to enter the House, I tell myself I am entering a place where I can offer comfort to families with children who need healthcare. That feeling gives me total joy on my Thursdays at this place.
Thank you, Marilyn, for sharing your volunteer story with us in honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month. We appreciate you and all our volunteers who help living out our mission of Keeping Families Close®.
