Love for Each Other and the House

A couple at RMHC

Why We Started Volunteering

I used to work for Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the research department. I have always been drawn to helping others, but, during my time working at the hospital, I gained a deep interest in being more involved in the community. I figured, what better way to do that than to volunteer at RMHC?

Prior to Kevin’s transition into banking, he was an educator with Columbus City Schools. During his time there, he developed a lot of meaningful relationships with students and also saw the importance of being willing to lend a helping hand.

Kevin and I love spending time together and thought volunteering at the House every other Saturday morning would be a great way to give back to the community while also spending time together.

What Volunteering Means to Us

Volunteering at the House is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences we have had. It brings us both so much joy to be able to make sure the house is tidy for families coming in.

We both have had relatives dealing with illness and in the hospital for extended periods of time and know that being able to take care of the little things such as cleaning bedrooms and common areas for families can take significant amounts of stress off them.

Over the last year and a half, we have had the opportunity to meet some of the nicest people while walking through the house and are honored to be able to get to spend a couple Saturdays a month giving back to a community, we love being part of.

Thank you, Alanna and Kevin, for sharing your volunteer story with us in honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month. We appreciate you and all our volunteers who help live out our mission of Keeping Families Close®.
