A Journey of Giving Back: My Connection with the Ronald McDonald House

By Meghana Menta

Early Beginnings in Columbus

Growing up in Columbus, my parents always emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. Starting in middle school, they would arrange for my friends and me to cook at the Ronald McDonald House. It was a wonderful way for us to spend time together while being part of something bigger than ourselves.

Initially, it was about personal fulfillment and developing my values, but over time, my desire to make a real difference grew stronger.

College Years and BuckeyeThon

When I went to college at The Ohio State University, I immediately joined BuckeyeThon, an organization dedicated to raising money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I became a team captain, and what once was something my parents organized became a true passion of mine.

This experience deepened my connection to the cause and solidified my commitment to supporting families with children in the hospital. It also helped me develop valuable skills in leadership and teamwork, and I found immense personal fulfillment in knowing I was contributing to a greater good.

Continuing the Mission After Graduation

After graduating, I knew I wanted to stay connected to the Ronald McDonald House. While in a rotational program at Nationwide Insurance, I organized a volunteer opportunity for past and present rotational program associates to cook a meal at the House. This initiative allowed me to continue giving back and stay involved with the community.

It was incredibly fulfilling to see the positive impact we could make together. Witnessing the gratitude of the families we helped was truly heartwarming and reinforced my commitment to this cause.

Joining the Red Shoe Society

A mentor from the rotational program, who was a member of the Red Shoe Society, introduced me to this incredible group of young professionals. The Red Shoe Society supports Ronald McDonald House Charities through fundraising, volunteering and networking.

With my strong connection to the House, I joined the leadership team and now work with passionate individuals who raise awareness and inspire others to get involved. Being part of this group has helped me find my purpose and has been a source of immense personal fulfillment.

Inspiring Others to Make a Difference

Being part of the Red Shoe Society has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I get to collaborate with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to making a positive impact.

Together, we continue to raise awareness and encourage others to support the Ronald McDonald House, ensuring that families with hospitalized children have the resources and support they need.

This journey has not only allowed me to give back to the community but has also inspired others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of kindness and support.

Get Involved and Make a Difference

If my story has inspired you, I encourage you to get involved with the Ronald McDonald House in any way you can. Whether it’s joining the Red Shoe Society, organizing meals with your friends, planning arts and crafts activities for the families or raising funds for this wonderful cause, every effort makes a significant impact.

Together, we can continue to support families in need and make a positive difference in our community.
