Our daughter, Estefani Martinez, was diagnosed at the age of seven with a disease called Polyarticular Childhood Arthritis. It is a disease of the immune system that can only be treated, and that was what the doctors did. But over time, the same Arthritis attacked her lungs generating a disease called pulmonary fibrosis, and despite taking preventive medications, it continued to progress, making it more difficult for her to breathe on her own every day. The doctors did not understand how this disease progressed so quickly. They had to intubate her, induce her into a coma, and supply her with all the help her body needed, with special machines (ventilators) to keep her alive. At that moment, our world collapsed.
At the Nemours Hospital in Orlando, Florida, they informed us that the only way to save Estefania was by performing a lung transplant, and the only hospital that accepted her case was Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. They told us that she was going to be transferred by air ambulance and that we would have the opportunity to have a place to stay for the necessary time needed for our daughter’s full recovery, at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio.
Upon arriving at the Columbus Ronald McDonald House on the first day, we received nothing but kindness and help from the very attentive staff. The room was comfortable and clean, and we were offered different services such as game rooms, laundry, good food, and excellent desserts. Everything about the House is very well thought out and organized.
We are incredibly grateful for all the help they have given us, for almost two and a half years. Our daughter has already received her new lungs and is currently recovering. She feels happy and has fun with the activities offered at the House daily. She also loves The Princess Room, The Lego Room, and is always asking what activities they are going to do, and if the therapy dogs are going to come. In short, it could not be better.

Historia de nuestra pequeña Guerrera. Estefania Martinez Guadarrama.
A nuestra hija Estefani Martinez le diagnosticaron a los 7 años de edad una enfermedad llamada Artritis infantil Poliarticular es una enfermedad del sistema inmunologico que sólo se puede tratar y fue lo que los médicos hicieron, pero con el tiempo la misma Artritis atacó sus pulmones generándole una enfermedad llamada fibrosis pulmonar, y a pesar de tomar medicamentos preventivos le siguió avanzando dificultandole poder respirar por su propia cuenta cada día más, los médicos no entendían como le avanzo tan rápido esta enfermedad, la tuvieron que entubar e inducirla a un coma y suministrarle toda la ayuda a su cuerpo con máquinas especiales ( ventiladores) para poder seguir manteniendola con vida. En ese momento se derrumbo nuestro mundo.
En el hospital Nemours de Orlando Florida nos informaron que la unica manera de salvar a nuestra hija Estefania era haciendole un transplante de pulmones y el único hospital que acepto su caso fue Nationwide Children’s hospital en Columbus Ohio donde iba hacer trasladada en ambulancia aérea, otorgándonos la oportunidad de tener donde quedarnos el tiempo necesario hasta la total recuperación de nuestra hija en Ronald McDonald’s house Columbus Ohio.
Al llegar a Ronald McDonald’s house desde el primer día fuimos recibido muy amablemente, el personal muy atento, la habitación cómoda y limpia, ofreciéndonos los diferentes servicios como los cuartos de juegos, la lavandería, buena comida y excelentes postres todo esta muy bien pensado y organizado.
Estamos muy agradecidos por toda la ayuda que nos han brindado durante casi un año y medio, nuestra hija ya recibio sus pulmones y está recuperándose se siente feliz y se divierte con las actividades que ofrecen diariamente, además que le encanta el cuarto de las princesas y el cuarto de lego, esta siempre preguntando que actividad van hacer, si van a venir los perritos de terapia : BOUSA, POSH, en fin mejor imposible.
Gracias a todo personal y voluntarios son un gran equipo de trabajo.
