  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
  3. Add the sliced onion, bay leaves, and whole black peppercorns.
  4. Sauté for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are translucent.
  5. Transfer the onion mixture to a plate and cover with foil.
  6. Add the canned chicken to the same pan and warm for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the chicken is thoroughly heated and lightly browned, return the onion mixture to the pan and stir to combine.
  8. Sprinkle in the brown sugar and stir until incorporated.
  9. Add the low-sodium soy sauce and apple cider vinegar.
  10. Stir well, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  11. Serve with rice or your preferred grain.
