Culinary Camp for Kids

June 14 @ 9:00 am - June 18 @ 3:00 pm

$350

In this cool camp where kids ages 10 to 14 get to learn cooking techniques, participants learn their way around a kitchen and how to create meals, while also learning the value of helping others! Using the kitchens at our Ronald McDonald House, campers will participate in a hands-on learning experience each day. Led by our own RMHC Head Chef Blair Arms, along with Columbus Downtown High School’s Culinary Teacher Chef Anthony, students will create lunch two times for all of the families staying at the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world on two separate days. Chef Blair has also invited some distinguished guest chefs to join the class throughout the week and impart their special knowledge to campers too! The final, second lunch will also be open to the parents of the campers.  Camp attendees will learn new culinary skills and techniques and will be able to take home items they create during class! They will learn the importance of nutrition and gain valuable kitchen skills, all while serving families at RMHC and learning about the mission of our charity.

For questions, email Blair.Arms@RMHC-Centralohio.org.

ABOUT OUR CHEFS:

Chef Blair Arms is the Head Chef/Food Services Manager at the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio. She attended Sullivan University where she acquired an Associate’s Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management. Chef Blair has been in the industry for 13 years, working at various universities, most recently with Ohio State University. Chef Blair has been the Head Chef at RMHC for 2 years. She coaches high school volleyball and club volleyball, and still manages to find time to play sand volleyball in her spare time. Her favorite thing about working at RMHC is that she can help provide a home away from home by providing delicious, hot meals for the families.

Anthony Ruffin has been employed by Columbus City Schools for 5 years, currently as the Culinary Arts Teacher at the Columbus Downtown High School. Ruffin has operated his catering business, including food trucks and a restaurant, for over 40 years. Previously, Mr. Ruffin was the Culinary Instructor for the Columbus City Schools’ Summer Camp, designed to host Middle School students for early career exploration. He attended both Ohio State University and Youngstown State University. Currently, he holds an Ohio Teaching License issued by the Ohio Department of Education, a ServSafe Food Safety Certification, and is a Certified Food Service Manager.  Mr. Ruffin is a highly sought after chef and teacher, that has demonstrated a true passion for cooking and preparing food that not only looks professional, but tastes just like grandma made it!

Chef Virginia Bistriceanu will be teaching the crepe class. Her expertise in creating these very thin pancakes which usually have a filling of some kind, will allow camp attendees to learn how to be creative with their confections. Chef Virginia will instruct the campers how to make crepes to be as thin as possible, but still allow them to hold the filling.

COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place throughout the camp, including hand-washing often & mask-wearing always.
